Home-grown success as College provides career progression for Ashleigh

Ashleigh Corteil arrived at Huntingdonshire Regional College in April 2014 to begin a work experience placement in the Apprenticeships department.

She never guessed that, two years later, she would be a full-time employee of the College and starting a Level 3 Apprenticeship of her own.

Having impressed during her placement, Ashleigh was taken on as an Intermediate Business Administration Apprentice in the College’s Admissions department before being appointed full-time as Employment Services Administrator in 2015.

Ashleigh said: “This has been an amazing opportunity for me as I had no previous experience in the sector.

“Before joining the College, I had only had worked for my grandad’s family business.”

Glenys Rogers, HRC’s Coordinator for Business and Management, has been Ashleigh’s Apprenticeship assessor throughout her time at the College.

Glenys said: “Ashleigh has developed into an integral part of her team and can be relied upon to support colleagues and learners whenever possible.

“She has shown determination to complete her functional skills, overcoming her fear of exams, to achieve her Level 2 qualifications in English, maths and ICT.”

Ashleigh is now embarking on an Advanced Apprenticeship in Business & Administration as part of her full-time role.

She added: “I’m looking forward to progressing onto Level 3 and gaining more experience as I feel that I Have so much more to learn.”
