HRC learners attend Inspiring Women event at Sadler’s Wells
Creative Industries learners at Huntingdonshire Regional College were part of a group of 100 female students in secondary and further education who joined ‘Inspiring Women’ event held by the English National Ballet at Sadler’s Wells in March.
The event brought together more than 20 successful women from the world of dance and was opened by Inspiring Women champion, Miriam Gonzalez.
Karen Conway, HRC Careers & Progression Advisor, said: “This event represented the perfect opportunity for our learners to learn about alternative careers and pathways into the performing arts.
“It was inspirational, motivational, aspirational and a great eye-opener into the industry.”
The learners took part in a speed interviewing activity in which they had the opportunity to meet women from the English National Ballet.
HRC Art & Design learner Jenny Smith added: “It was refreshing to speak to inspiring women, some of whom had changed careers several times before they found the perfect job in the performing arts.
“It was good to hear that you can make these career changes and still be successful.”
Opening the event, Tamara Rojo, ENB Artistic Director, said: “I realised that I needed to go out there and create more opportunities, especially for women.”
“My message to you today is to fight for those opportunities, to value yourselves and create opportunities for the next generation after you.”
