Marianna’s enterprising journey continues
It was a double celebration for Marianna Garcia, an Art & Design learner at Huntingdonshire Regional College, as she picked up her second Young Enterprise Journey Award this month at the regional finals.
Marianna had previously collected the area award and now progresses to the national final at the Savoy Hotel, London, in May.
The Journey Award recognises learners who have overcome obstacles and developed new skills which may have a life-changing impact.
Marianna is the Finance Director of Creative Innovators Ltd, a merchandising company set up by a group of learners at the College with the support of Young Enterprise, and she was joined by fellow team members at the ceremony.
Karen Conway, Career Services Lead at HRC, said: “English is Marianna’s second language and she has worked extremely hard to overcome the challenge of speaking to external parties when establishing Creative Innovators.
“She has become a very confident, motivated and determined individual who has grown in confidence and maturity.
“Marianna goes the extra mile to complete task successfully whilst also encouraging and motivating others.”
Marianna added: “I’m really excited to have won the award and I’m looking forward to representing the company at the national finals.”
Since establishing the company last autumn, with the support of Young Enterprise, Creative Innovators has designed and developed a range of gift items which are then sold at local markets and fairs.
Najari Merki, Administrative Director, added: “It has been a challenging journey – we have had to be really committed to what we are doing, develop our professionalism and work as a team.”
