Passion for cars fuels former Apprentice’s career progress

Andrew Markland, a technician at Bensten Motors in St Ives, believes that his Apprenticeship has helped him on the road to a successful career.

Having begun his time at HRC as a full-time learner, Andrew completed his Motor Vehicle Apprenticeship with HRC in the summer of 2014 before joining the BMW specialists.

He said “If it wasn’t for the College and the Apprenticeship I wouldn’t be where I am now.

“In particular, it has really helped to build my confidence to work in customer service.”

His full-time role at Bensten Motors involves carrying out a range of tasks from general services and major repairs.

“I really enjoy my job and there’s a great atmosphere at Bensten.

“I’ve always had a passion for care and I’d love to open a garage of my own one day.

Andrew added: Apprenticeships have the advantage of allowing you to earn and learn at the same time.

“Employers value the experience and the head start that it gives you.”
